Akadaney, Niger, Africa - Fulani Wodaabe Dancers at Geerewol, often referred to by westerners as the male beauty contest, in which the whiteness of the eyes and the teeth is an important factor in appealing to the female spectators. Large leather wallets, or red leather amulets, hang from a cord around the neck of the dancers. Cowrie shells form a fringe on some of the fabric, though this site may be a thousand miles from any sea coast.
