Te Whare Runanga (Maori Meeting House), Waitangi Treaty Grounds, north island, Paihia, New Zealand.  Opened in 1940, on the centenary of the signing of the treaty between the Maori and the British.  The explorer Kupe, Polynesian discoverer of New Zealand (Aotearoa), stands at the apex of the gable above the entrance to the house.
