Antigua, Guatemala. An alfombra (carpet) of colored sawdust, pine needles, and other traditional materials decorating the street in front of the Ayuntamiento (town hall, or Casa del Cabildo) in advance of the passage of a procession on Good Friday morning, La Semana Santa. The alfombra will be finished only a couple of hours before the passage of the procession, after which the remains will be quickly swept away by municipal street sweepers.
