Antigua, Guatemala. An alfombra (carpet) of colored sawdust decorates the street in advance of the passage of a procession during Holy Week, La Semana Santa. A worker sprays a fine mist on the alfombra, to keep the colors brilliant and to prevent the dry sawdust from blowing away. The alfombra will be finished only a couple of hours before the passage of the procession, after which the remains will be quickly swept away by municipal street sweepers.
