Dakar, Senegal. Place du Souvenir, a Monument to Remember those lost in the Joola Ferry Disaster of 2002, when an estimated 1863 people lost their lives when the ferry sank off the coast of the Gambia, en route to Dakar from Ziguinchor. Monument completed 2007. Facilities adjacent to the monument are used as a venue for cultural exhibits and performances.
